Monte Bondone
Road bike tour to Monte Bondone
The ascent to Monte Bondone was made famous by the professional cyclist Chary Gaul and is still part of the Giro d'Italia today (the last uphill finish was in 2006).
The ascent begins in Trento and leads in 38 hairpin bends via Sardagna to an altitude of around 1500 metres. The first part of the route offers marvellous views of the Adige Valley and the city of Trento. Further up, the vegetation thins out and the view opens up to the spectacular Dolomite cliffs of the Brenta Group. The descent follows a road with little traffic and numerous hairpin bends to Aldeno in the Adige Valley. From there, the route follows the Adige river and finally climbs up to the Vigolana plateau before ending in the Valsugana valley.
